Micro-credential Pilots 2020-21

With the support of the Government of Ontario, eCampusOntario has launched thirty-six micro-credential pilot projects at Ontario colleges and universities. Each pilot project represents a unique partnership with an industry partner and a collaborative response to an identified skills gap. Download this document for a full list of pilots.

Whatever the conditions, eCampusOntario is your partner in driving the evolution of education through micro-credentials at both the local and systemic level. Upgrading learning through micro-credentials offers digital and creative solutions to meet rapid needs while building longer-term economic resilience.

Human Skills

2020-21

  • Micro-credential for Municipal Governance
    Create new content to issue a micro-credential that prepares individuals for employment within municipal government in Ontario, with an emphasis on rural areas. Partners: Durham College, Northumberland County
  • Micro-credential for Intercultural Competence
    Who do you think you are? Identify and Bias at Work. A reflective micro-credential for professionals in diverse workplaces. Partners: University of Guelph, guard.me International Insurance
  • Micro-credential for Internationally Trained Professionals
    Create soft skills content to issue micro-credentials in workplace preparation to support internationally trained professionals. Partners: Mohawk College, Hamilton Chamber of Commerce
  • Micro-credential in Cultural Skills and Active Offer
    Create new content to issue micro-credentials in inter-cultural competencies and active offer. Partners: L’Université de Hearst, Innovanor, Pepco Inc., Hôpital Notre-Dame de Hearst and Service de toxicomanie Cochrane Nord.

  • Micro-credential in Design Thinking
    To create scalable Design Thinking content & micro-credentials for individuals and groups within Queen’s University, the Kingston community, and beyond. Partners: Queen’s University, City of Kingston
  • Micro-credential in Intercultural Intelligence
    Create new content to issue micro-credentials in intercultural intelligence to assist City of Kingston with implementation of Workplace Inclusion Charter. Partners: St. Lawrence College, City of Kingston
  • Micro-credential in Teamwork and Communication
    Adapt existing content to issue micro-credentials in teamwork and communication. Partners: University of Waterloo, Electricity Human Resources Canada
  • Micro-credential in Non-profit Change Management

    Create new content to issue micro-credentials in Digital Marketing Skills for small businesses in recovery post-COVID 19. Partners: Fanshawe College, Downtown London
  • Micro-credential in Accessible Training for Building Codes
    Create new content to issue micro-credentials in accessibility training in line with building codes. Partners: George Brown College, the Ontario Building Officials Association
  • Micro-credential in Mathematics
    Create accredited content to issue micro-credentials in mathematics to support upskilling for persons in entry-level, technological, trades or prospective University students living in Northern and Indigenous communities.   • Micro-credential in Data Analytics

  • Micro-credential in Design Thinking

  • Micro-credential for Media Ingestor
    Create new content to issue micro-credentials in ingesting media into production for news broadcast environments. Partners: Seneca College, Avid Technology Inc.

  • Micro-credential in Data Fluency
    Create new content to issue micro-credentials in data fluency for freight and parcel delivery workers (and possibly other positions within the organization). Partners: Humber College, Purolator
  • Micro-credential in Internet of Things and Modern Web Design
    Create new content to issue micro-credentials Internet of Things and Modern Web Design in Sarnia-Lambton region. Partners: Lambton College, Tertec Enterprises Inc., Link2Feed, CCI Studios Inc, Cipher Interactive Inc
  • Micro-credential in User-Centered Product Design
    Create new content to issue micro-credentials for user-centered product design in wearable technology. Partners: OCAD University, Myant Inc.

2020-21

  • Micro-credential for Personal Support Workers
    Create new content to issue micro-credentials in a complement to Personal Support Workers, “Personal Care Assistant”. The training will be developed in such a way that participants will be able to ladder seamlessly into the Personal Support Worker Certificate program.   • Micro-credential in Caregiving
    Create new content to deliver a micro-credential in Professional Practice in Caregiving, which broadens caregivers’ skills, knowledge, and attitudes for working in communities with vulnerable individuals across diverse groups and populations. Partners: Canadore College, Spark Lifecare, and Spark University
  • Micro-credential in Essential Skills for Supportive Care
    Create new content to issue micro-credentials in Essential Skills for Supportive Care. Partners: Georgian College, County of Simcoe Long Term Care and Seniors Services
  • Micro-credential in Feeding, Donning and Doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    Create new content for a stackable micro-credential program, “Interprofessional Practice in Healthcare on Care and Safety”, including micro-credentials in Feeding, Donning and Doffing of Personal Protective Equipment, and COVID-19 Precautions. Partners: Ontario Tech University, Lakeridge Health
  • Micro-credential in Indigenous Cultural Safety
    Create new content to issue micro-credentials in four key areas in Indigenous cultural safety. Partners: University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health, the Waakebiness-Bryce Institute for Indigenous Health, Peterborough Public Health
  • Micro-credential in Patient Navigation

  • Micro-credential in Safe Patient Transfer

    Create new content to issue micro-credentials to enhance detection and improve communication for police officers investigating human trafficking cases. Partners: Wilfrid Laurier University, The Brantford Police Service

    Adapt existing content to issue micro-credentials in Health Informatics to skilled workers and support the 2020 implementation of a new hospital information system in Windsor-Essex, Erie St. Clair and Chatham regional health services.   • Micro-credential in Health Coaching and Patient Navigation
    Adapt existing content to issue micro-credentials to health care workers in health coaching and patient navigation.   • Micro-credential in Battery Electric Vehicle Maintenance

  • Micro-credential in Warehousing and Logistics
    Adapt existing content of Connect2Skills, a micro-credential for upskilling workers in warehousing and logistics, to align with eCampusOntario framework elements of verifiability, ownership and extensibility. Partners: Conestoga College, Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie

Natural Resources

2020-21

  • Micro-credential in Indigenous Rights and Relationship-building
    Building on 2019-20 pilot, develop additional online content to create a stackable micro-credential program for various competencies related to Indigenous rights and relationship-building in the forestry sector (e.g. respecting Aboriginal and treaty rights within sustainable forest management, unlocking the power of the local Indigenous workforce, developing inclusive procurement policies, etc.).   • Micro-credential in Respecting Indigenous Treaty Rights in Sustainable Forest Management
    Create new content to issue micro-credentials to current forest practitioners and up-and-coming forestry professionals in the understanding and application of Indigenous rights and relationship building. Partners: Sault College, Project Learning Tree Canada

Research

2020-21

  • Micro-credential Research
    Conduct research to test the impact and measure the outcomes of a previously-deployed micro-credential, from both industry and learner perspectives. Partners: Humber College, Procept Associates Ltd.
  • Micro-credential Research
    Conduct research on the value and resulting employability of micro-credentials from a learner perspective, as well as explore the role of the micro-credential within the electricity sector. Partners: University of Waterloo, Electricity Human Resources Canada
  • Micro-credential Research
    Conduct research on micro-credential to define and evaluate their value to employers, as well as determine how the eCampusOntario framework can be adopted and expanded upon. Partners: Western Continuing Studies, Pillar Nonprofit Network
